Read how a fellow swordsman and his group fixed long-lasting problemsHello fellow sword fighters, Today, I would like to share with you a testimonial I received from my friend and patron, Stefan von Bischoffshausen, who had previously purchased our I.33 online course. Cornelius and I were absolutely delighted to learn that Stefan's group had benefitted immensely from our approach to entering and controlling a fight, exactly as we had hoped, using the teachings from the online course. Here is Stefan's message: "In these last training sessions, we have continued focusing on the two-phase step, only starting the actual attack at the correct distance (namely when we are close enough to hit before the opponent can react). We all noticed how the little pieces start to fall into place when we do this. Suddenly, there is no need to grip the sword strongly or to resist the opponent's threats with strength. Body position and footwork also become natural and efficient. It's quite surprising because we have known these details for a long time now (posture, grip, etc.), but until now we hadn't been able to see them work as intended. Even more, I saw a huge change in the way my training partners engage in a fight. One of them used to avoid binds as much as possible and relied mainly on quick and strong attacks from wide measure. The other one was very aggressive in his advance and could push anyone out of his guard, usually winning but also frequently ending in double hits. I knew those things were wrong, but I couldn't figure out how to use these mistakes to my advantage, nor how to help them fix those issues. Again, thanks to this training, it finally became clear that I was reacting way too early to those threats and playing their game. It was like a game of chicken, and I was always yielding first. Once I noticed this, I was soon able to hold my ground and effortlessly resist most of those attacks and advances, even attacking and hitting during the tempos created by them. In turn, this finally helped my friends notice the mistakes they were making (which we had discussed before, but without a clear way to fix them) and correct them immediately. Of course, it's still something new to us, and we tend to fall back into our old habits, but the improvement has been much faster than I had anticipated. I can't wait to see what's coming next!" If this encourages you to enroll in the course yourself, now is a good time. You can still benefit from the midsummer sale and get a 40% discount. The special offer ends on Sunday.

AI and Historical Accuracy: A Mismatch Detail of Hamburg's Alster fortification in the early 11th century Hello, fellow medieval military history enthusiasts, Recently, one of my illustrations of Hamburg’s 11th-century fortifications went viral on Facebook. A follower kindly commented: “AI has nothing on you, sir.” I was delighted by this enthusiastic response—and he is absolutely right. Generative AI cannot create historically accurate images of pre-modern eras. This is because AI is trained...
